Beautiful palace with lovely gardens. The exhibits are interesting without being overwhelming. A really nice place to spend an hour or two while exploring London.
Nestled in the grounds of Kensington Gardens, Kensington Palace boasts a selection of magnificent rooms, art, jewels, and exhibits charting royal life there throughout the years.
The palace is famous for being the birthplace and childhood home of Queen Victoria, and in more recent history it became the official residence of Princess Diana, which makes it very special to many visitors. Today, parts of it are still used by members of the Royal Family, while other areas are open to the public, giving you a unique mix of living history and heritage.
The King’s Staircase is really impressive, as are the highly ornate appointments of the King’s State Apartments, including the Privy Chamber, the King’s Gallery, the Presence Chamber, the Cupola Room, and the King’s Drawing Room.
Photos are allowed, but without flash, which wasn’t so great because some areas are quite dark and would’ve been better with a flash.
There were basically 4 sections to look at: The queen’s apartments, the king’s apartments, parts of the house dedicated to Queen Victoria’s childhood to becoming queen at 18 years old, and the special exhibition, which for us were clothes and jewelry worn by the royals.
At the end you’re led to a gift shop, naturally, and a cafe, which is perfect because by the end of the tour you’ll be hungry.
