Scottish Highlands (Glencoe valley)
In this journey, we will only briefly glimpse the Scottish Highlands, but we will find ourselves in its heart, the Glencoe valley. Glencoe has become a symbol of Scotland’s harsh, wild beauty, as well as a reminder of dramatic and bloody events of the past.
Location: Located in the western part of the Scottish Highlands, in the region of Argyll and Bute.
Landscape: Glencoe is a typical “glen” (Gaelic word for valley), formed by glacial erosion. The valley is very narrow, with steep, majestic mountains rising on either side.
Mountains: The mountain slopes are covered with heather moors, and the summits are often snow-capped. The most famous peaks are The Three Sisters, which form an impressive mountain group.
Waterfalls: During rains or snowmelt, numerous waterfalls flow down the slopes, adding to the valley’s picturesque beauty.
Lochs: In the vicinity of Glencoe, there are several beautiful lochs, such as Loch Leven, which reflect the surrounding mountains.
