This is a paradise! Wonderful nature, amazing view, and, above all, thousands of cute puffins. Certainly worth visiting! Advance booking for the boat trip is necessary.
Skomer houses the largest colony of puffins in the south of the UK (around 42k pairs) and is an amazing place to see them!
Spring on Skomer Island is a colourful affair with bluebells and pink campion carpeting most of the island. The colours are so vivid they can easily be seen from the mainland. Puffins tripping over your feet, manx shearwaters flying into you, seals singing on the beaches and short eared owls hunting.
Boat trips leave from the jetty about 4 times a day in peak season with around 25 people on board. The Wildlife Trust have their shop at the top of the hill providing opportunity for gifts simple snacks and information. Toilets are halfway down the hill which were fully working. National Trust car park about 400 yards at the end of the road leading to the small port and it charges.
The island is full of life in and out the water. It’s the sense of history here that really hits you. The past still echoes with a thousand voices of the Celts, Romans, Vikings and so on.
